E-Commerce in India is booming for sure, and I don’t mean the CAQ, money on Marketing going crazy, and everyone having a site for selling everything, literally! But the fact, that people are paying Online to buy Tickets, phones, clothes, grocery using internet and mobile in itself is a fact that the market is slowly moving towards, a coming of age.
The Question I would like to ask here is, if you are an E-Commerce setup or are planning to setup, what is the best way to get your shop up and running?
There are few basic things you need figured out like – Website, Payment gateway, Inventory, Logistics and you are mostly ready to roll.
If you are starting an E-Commerce venture and are a Non-Techie and don’t have a Techie who can build the site and back-end you would typically go for one of these platforms like Zepo, Buildabazaar, BigRaja, Magento, Shopify, Martjack, Ambab and more (Quora has really good answers to this ) depending upon you wish to open source it or have a pre-packed package.
But here is what I have seen in my time with working with fast scaling good E-Commerce or online consumer companies – if possible build your own CRM and Platform to manage orders, customers, website and everything for the few below reasons:
1. Control to scale, change and add new requirements as customers and demand grows.
2. Flexibility to be fast and rapid in iterations – no need to wait for 3rd party to introduce features.
That being said, if a small shopkeeper in Malad/Koramanagala who has great jewellery and wants to have another avenue apart from his physical shop, I would recommend going ahead with one of the above platforms who are rapidly growing and innovating in different ways.
The Question for any E-Commerce company owner or someone who is setting his shop online as well is whether he wants to Scale and at what rate, I guess it is open to debate, but beyond a certain scale, you need a lot of ability to customize your back-end, right?
